Manna is a rather short tree which grows up to 23m high. |

The bark is smooth and grey(ish), but here partly covered in something green, possibly moss or maybe a lichen. |

The leaves consist of between 5 and 9 leaflets arranged in opposite leaflets with a terminal leaflet. |

The leaves are elliptical to narrow-elliptic, and number between 5 and 9 leaflets. (7 to 11 leaflets for Narrow-leaved Ashand 9 to 13 leaflets for Common Ash. |

The leaves have wavy edges and fine teeth, barely discernible here...
The flowers appear after the leaves have developed. With these specimens being photographed in mid August it looks as though all the flowers have now gone, vamooshed, dropped off, but they are very distinctive looking like masses of finely shredded (long and narrow) white paper all clumped together. Uniquely identifiable characteristics Distinguishing Feature : The white narrowly-shredded flowers (if they are present)... Manna, a laxative, is a product of this tree, is a sweet gum which can be extracted from the tree by 'tapping' the trunk which then exudes a white sap.
