The most distinguishing difference from Maidenhair Spleenwort is that the mid-rib supporting the leaflets is a concolorous green rather than brown to blackish. In fact, the leaf-stalks, mid-rib and the upper part of the main stalk is green. The individual leaflets (pinnae) are also differ in shape and form from those of Maidenhair Spleenwort. |
Easily mistaken for : Maidenhair Spleenwort (Asplenium trichomanes) - see captions for differences. It is more often found in the west or the north of the UK in damp places on walls, rocks, upland rock-crevices and on basic rocks (usually limestone) in Snowdonia, the Brecon Beacoms, the Yorkshire Dales, Cumbria and in Scotland.
