The plant grows up to 1.2m long, here near water with one of the Horsetails (probably Water Horsetail) on the right growing in the water. |

The male florets are at the summit here with orange anthers; the female ones are below with paler and shorter styles - which are in pairs [The similarly aquatic Greater Pond-Sedge and Lesser Pond-Sedge have styles in threes]. |

Male spikes with orange stamens; female spikes with shorter and pale styles.
The greyish-green (glaucous) leaves are triangular in cross-section (as in most species of Sedge). They are also ribbed. |
