Ignore the very long, bright-green, linear leaves in the foreground: they are of another species of plant. But the paler-green, slightly narrower and much shorter leaves do belong to Narrow-leaved Water-plantain. It has flowers which are in whorls and many of the whorls 9especially lower whorls) are in panicles. |

It being later in the season the 3-petalled pink flowers with yellow centre have been and gone on this specimen, leaving only the fruits which are in abundance. |

Panicles of whorls. Below them the leaves which can be anywhere between narrow-elliptic to lanceolate-elliptic in shape (whereas the leaves of the similar looking Water-Plantain (Alisma plantago-aquatica)) are elliptical to ovate-elliptic). All leaves appear from below the level of the water from near the base of the plant. |

The leaves are narrow rather than have a base which is rounded (as does Water-Plantain), it tapers gradually (cuneate). [The top of this specimen has been damaged]. The leaves are also long (rather than wider and much shorter as are those of Water-Plantain). |

The fruits are said to be wider near the middle on Narrow-leaved Water-plantain. (Well, some are and some aren't on these specimens)... |
