Some similarities to : Many other Fritillaries, perticularly Pearl-Bordered Frittilary. To distinguish the two, the small variety has markings which look like a '730' just inside the top-edge of the wing where it narrows towards the base, whereas on the other they are much less like numerals. Also, although not as apparent in the above specimen, on all four wings of B.selene the marginal spots (around the curved outer margin of the wing) look like a chain of black-ringed orange circles whereas in B.euphrosyne the effect is more of their being inwardly bordered by a line of black chevrons. [These observations are thanks to a Mr. Peter Hardy, an expert in butterflies; see the Links page in the APPendix for his excellent website].
