FAMILY GRAVEYARDThis website now endeavours to conform to the APGIII taxonomic system of 2009. As such a great deal of rationalization, re-assignment, abolishment and the invention of totally new families has occurred in comparison to previous systems, such as the pre-Cronquist system. This has all become possible by recent advances in molecular taxonomy. The result is an accumulation of a large number of dis-used and now obsolete families, which have been buried in the family vaults but are herewith listed. Note that in many instances, it is the family name which has changed rather than the family being abolished altogether. In other instances it may be that the original family has been split up, then abolished, and the constituent Genera now redistributed into more than one differing family, some of which may be newly-fangled families. Conversely; many old families have been merged into a single new family.
This list is probably in-complete; more will indubitably be added to the list as taxonomists further refine their Any discrepancies from AGPIII could be due to some disagreement between taxonomists, for many genera are still in a state of taxonomic flux, some torn between more than two magnetic poles. The genera currently under Boraginaceae could be due for some major turmoil in the future, if only taxonomists could agree what. At some point in the future the constituents of the Boraginaceae will be torn asunder and flung off into nethereaches of the cosmic landscape by several co-gyrating pulsars at tachyonic speeds, perhaps to land up in several different Universes out of the >10500 thought available.

Hint - if you wish to browse through the new Families rather than just look at one, then use the left-wardly directed arrows immediately below to put the Family selector into the column on the immediate left, otherwise if you use the links provided on this page, then the one will over-write the other.
